The Department of Anesthesiology has two training programmes : a two year, Fellowship of the National Board (FNB) in Cardiac Anesthesiology and a one year , Post Doctoral Certificate Course (PDCC) in Cardiac Anesthesiology and Critical Care. The Institute of Cardio Vascular Diseases is one of the first centres in the country to offer these programmes. The ICVD has also been training intensivists in the fields of both aadult and pediatric cardiac care.
The Departments of Microbiology and Pathology issue Postgraduate diplomas in Medical Microbiology and Medical Laboratory Technology following a supervised in-house training programme.
Besides offering trainig programmes to doctors from within the country, the institute of Cardio Vascular Diseases has over the years been a favoured destination for doctors who wish to upgrade their skills in Cardiology, Cardiac Anesthesiology and Cardiac Surgery from countries in the African continent, besides neighbouring countries in the Indian subcontinent and China. It is a matter of pride that many centres in Kenya, Nigeria, Uganda and Bangladesh have come into existence because of personnel trained at the Institiute of Cardio Vascular Diseases.
The Physician Assistant Training Programme was started in 1993 at the Institute of Cardio Vascular Diseases; its aim, to train a competent para medical force that could be utilized for patient care at various disciplines. the programme is conducted by the MMM-BITS Training Centre, a collaborative centre of the Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani and Institute of Cardio Vascular Diseases.
