Training has been a priority at the Institute of Cardio Vascular Diseases since its inception in 1987. The founders of the Institute recognize the importance in training of personnel in maintaining the highest quality of patient care, a commitment that remains to this day.

It is by cultivating an environment that combines the uninhibited inquisitiveness of the trainee with the dedication of the teacher in imparting knowledged that is firmly based on ethical and moral clinical practise.

The Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases is recognized for Post Doctoral training in Cardiology and Cardio Thoracic Surgery by the National Board of Examinations, New Delhi, for the receipt of the Diplomate of the National Board on these specialities. Successive batches of trainees have graduated with their qualifications (DNB) and the Institute has brought out many qualified and competent cardiologists and surgeons who continue to make qualitative difference to cardiac units within the country and overseas, as a resounding tribute to the Institute's competent training system.

The Department of Paediatric Cardiology has a training programme leading to the award of Fellowship of the National Board( FNB) in Paediatric Cardiology.

The Department of Anesthesiology has two training programmes : a two year, Fellowship of the National Board (FNB) in Cardiac Anesthesiology and a one year , Post Doctoral Certificate Course (PDCC) in Cardiac Anesthesiology and Critical Care. The Institute of Cardio Vascular Diseases is one of the first centres in the country to offer these programmes. The ICVD has also been training intensivists in the fields of both aadult and pediatric cardiac care.
