Objective |
The purpose of Clinical Microbiology is to help the clinician in the Diagnosis of Infections in patients and to provide Antibiotic Susceptability results of the Isolated Organisms at the earliest. The Microbiologists should help in optimum management of infections in patients and in preventing the spread of infection to other patients. In many infections, early treatment is crucial to prevent mortality and morbidity. Though the responsibility is much, it is gratifying to see the rapid improvement of in patients if early and timely report is given and appropriate therapy started. The microbiologist must be alert to unusual findings and convey early results to the Clinician. |

» The Course offers training in basic aspects of aseptic techniques , in handling patients specimens for lab investigations, accurate numbering and registration of specimens cleaning and sterilization of glasswares, preparation of sterile media , microscopic , cultural, serologic and other tests in diagnosis of causative agents of infection. Most bacterial, fungal ( Mycotic) and parasitic infections can be diagnosed thus. |

» Some knowledge on diagnosis of viral infectons and immunological diagnosis also will be imparted. Most importantly, antibiotic susceptability ( sensitivity ) test of the isolated organism is determined and the clinician is aided to use the best antibiotic effectively. |
Only limited number of students will be admitted per year as the course involves much supervised bench training, didactic lectures, seminars , etc., and regular assessment. |
