The department of Pathology supports the clinical hospital services by examining the surgical samples (biopsy) and cytological samples( cervical smear, urine cytology, non gynaecologucal samples) for disease processes.
The department is headed by Pathologist, supported by a team of histotechnicians, The Department has well established protocols for all biopsy samples, histochemistry and IFA. The turn around time of 24 hour on any given sample is well maintained. Special microwave processing of tissues help issue rapid reports
The department undertakes Intra operative consultations and sample is processed with cryostat (frozen sections) to obtain sections. This is advantage in managing tumours of breast, heart, brain, lymph nodes etc.
The department is involved in academics by offering four year BSC (MLT) course, recognised by MAHE from the year 2004. The Department Museum comprises of more than 300 cardiac specimens that provide a wealth of information for trainees and practising physicians alike.
The department also involves itself in research by coordinating with other clinical departments including BITS, Pilani.
