The Institute of Reproductive Medicine and Women’s Health is now eight and a half years old and we are hosting our eighth international conference on 15th, 16th & 17th of August 2008. The scientific content of a conference is the keystone on which its success depends. Our last seven conferences were well received, well attended and were very much appreciated. Keeping up with the pace of rapid development in the medial field, it is essential that the practicing doctors keep themselves abreast with recent advances in the medial field, so that the benefit can percolate to the patient. We had galaxy of eminent national and international faculty who shared their knowledge, expertise and experience with the participants.

       Out institute is a postgraduate center recognized by MGR Medical University and by National Board of Examination, New Delhi. Our institution has been a solid platform committed, to move with advancing technology and knowledge through its annual meets where national and international experts are brought to the doorsteps of clinicians.

       There is a great need to update ourselves our maternal mortality rate (MMR) and perinatal mortality rate (PNMR) are still very high. We need to work together and reduce this problem. There are many ways to improve and the governmental and non governmental private sectors and the various societies in India should find some methods to overcome the problems we face.

       Prompt assessment and appropriate treatment will reduce a lot of problems we face in our practice. For that we need to keep ourselves well informed about recent developments.

       For these reasons and international conference is needed and the faculty come for abroad and from nationally to share their knowledge, expertise and their views in managing clinical problems in obstetrics, subfertility and gynaecology.

       The theme of our major programme on 15th, 16th and 17th of August is on “Recent Developments in Obstetrics, Subfertility and Gynaecology”. We chose this theme because we felt there is a need to update ourselves in these three aspects of clinical practice. In the present times there is great demand for quality care. To provide best care to our women who seek help we need to upgrade ourselves on new innovations and strengthen our basic knowledge.

       The scientific sessions are planned to meet the interest of both beginners and the experts. We hope the deliberaltions during the conference will enable the experts to develop our intellectual insight into the crux of the major health issue. This will also give a golden opportunity to the youngsters to update the knowledge and skill in this challenging field.

       At the end of three days we hope and wish that the recommendations emerging from the conference should prove instrumental in rendering better health services to the mankind.

       We hope that all shall enjoy the academic content of the meeting and the beauty of the historical Chennai city.
